Black mold removal from dishwasher ?
How do you remove Black mold and mildew fom a Dishwasher? I read somehwere there is a home mixture you can make and then run it through to clean it.
DO NOT PUT BLEACH IN YOUR DISWASHER!!! It can damage the heating probes that dry your dishes. Get a dishwasher cleaner at your grocery store, it can be found where the dishwasher detergents are. Also you can use the dishwasher tabs or detergent that has the bleach with it, this is safe and that will prevent the mold and mildew from building. Do you let your dishes airdry or do you use the heated dry. You may want to start using the heated dry because that will help eliminate the moisture in the dishwasher. Worse comes to worse if none of that workes, your will have to use a mold and mildew cleaner on the inside of your diswasher and then let it set. Just remember to cover the heating probe before spraying. Then run your dishwasher empty. That should help. It is not normal to have mold and mildew in your dishwasher so you need to figure out why this is happening to eliminate the problem. Good Luck
Question on black mold removal regulations concerning senior housing?
I am wondering what the laws are on the removal of black mold from a structure, specifically a senior housing apartment complex. Is it legal to repair infected areas with the residents there still?
i know in new orleans after the severe flooding residents had to vacate to fumigate and remove all the mold accruded. if it is a little bit of mold removal u should not be in the unit when they perform this work. if its extensive you shoudl not be there bc its creates ailments in the air that can be an affect on your health. when people remove mold they usually wear masks and suits to protect themselves. so legally speaking im not sure but morally yes tenants should be vacated when they remove mold.
Are there any grants out there for black mold removal.?
I have had to move from my home because I became very ill. but can't afford to get the removal done on my own and insurance won't help. everytime I go into my house i breakout in a rash. I still am ill but have had to quit my job and no longer have insurance. I just am at a loss about what I should do next. any advice would help.
No knowledge of grants.

But check out the remarkable research on toxic mold removal done by environmental expert Dr Ed Close. Simply diffusing a therapeutic-grade essential oil regularly will likely result in an environment very hostel to mold.

www.secretofthieves.com/mold.cfm

In one instance, 10,667 stachybotrys mold spores were identified in a per cubic meter area. After diffusing Thieves essential oil for forty-eight hours, Dr Close retested. Only thirteen stachybotrys remained. Similarly, 75,000 stachybotrys mold spores were identified in a sample of sheetrock. After seventy-two hours of diffusing, no stachybotrys mold spores remained. (Stachybotrys has a reputation for being the most toxic mold.)

Don't know if it'll solve your problem, but an investment of a couple hundred bucks in a diffuser an some bottles of oil is certainly less expensive than the normal remediation process.
Black mold removal?
What is a good home mixture to remove blackmold? I believe a mixture of bleach and soap and water works, but I'm not sure.
You can also add vinegar to your bleach mixture. Vinegar helps to stop the mold from growing back. Good luck. 2D
Black mold removal in shower?
I have a tiled square shower and black mold has gotten into the grout. I scrub it everyday, it disappears and is back within the day. I really need some help this is driving me nuts!!!!
Clean it with undiluted white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide. Do a weekly rinse with vinegar water to prevent molds from growing.
Has anybody tried Safe Shield Black Mold Remover?
I've been reading a lot of articles that it is the best new thing in the battle against black mold. The problem is that I haven't found any reviews from those that have used it. Not sure if it is too new to have it's own fanbase website yet or what. From what I read in the news articles and such it is supposed to be the best choice for black mold removal and preventative. So if you have used it, I'd like to get your opinion on whether or not it works.

Thanks for the insight.
I havent heard of this but do no the best and only way to actully kill mold is to use diluted bleach water and wipe down the area. this will ensure that it does not come back...
Black mold removal - what do you recommend for DIY?
An friend from G. Rapids, Michigan is into foreclosures this days. He got me a house there, a real bargain price. Must fly over tomorrow to see it and sign the papers, then back to work on Monday. He said it's all fine, good condition compared to other places like this he sold - except that heating was off during winter and it developed some nasty black mold and I have to start thinking what can I do about it in less than 2 days. I heard black mold is toxic - he sent me pics of it - can see basement mold, kitchen and even attic mold. I cannot possible hope of doing anything drastic in such a short time, like pumping the crawlspace mold out, but could I at least spend a few dollar and starve it DIY with some off-the-shelf before I return there next month and spend a few days bringing the place to life? Anyone facing something similar recently?
You got some very sound answers there, but not sure you know what to do next. My advice, based on the experience I got with black mold removal when my grandma died and I had to sell the house - forget about DIY as the first option before you get an expert on-site to have a look and eventually give you a quote. I used www.michiganmoldspecialist.com last year, as they were close and I got a mold removal assessment and quote for free on the same day, once one of their specialists drove over and checked the house. Make sure the agent gets to see everything, including crawlspaces mold - if you want to renegotiate the insurance, you need that.
My 2c - you stand no chance of dealing with this on your own if you are not qualified, and you risk making things worse or even harm yourself. Get it at least properly assessed and do that BEFORE you buy the property - right now you risk losing little, and foreclosure mold is still expensive mold, whatever bargain your friend is driving. Just keep a cool head and think this through, right?
Who should I contact about mold removal in my home?
I own a residence in Lexington, KY and just recently found black mold in my basement. Other than a general home repair agent to assess the situation and my insurance rep, who should I contact? Are there mold removal specialists or will a general home repair handymen be sufficient?

If anyone has any referrals for entities in Lexington specifically I greatly appreciate it.
Mold removal is only one part of your problem. Yes, you want it removed but as you noted you also would like the insurance co to compensate you for damage and you need damage repaired. Lastly, the mold grew in its current location due to favorable conditions. Typically this means too much water. In addition to correcting the existing damage you need to resolve underlying conditions.

A mold specialist will wash the moldy surfaces but may or may not be able to deal with underlying conditions. You might even be able to get a cleaning company to come in a clean off the mold. If your property is not graded properly or gutters or roof materials are missing or not functioning properly they may not be equipped to handle the situation. I would expect more of a short term solution from them. If you have a good company they may recommend to subcontract to the needed specialist. In this case they would be working as your GC.

A GC might have the experience to correct underlying conditions but for anything he will not rip out he will tell you to get cleaned.

Again depending upon the reasons for the mold a handyman or general repair person might be sufficient to the task.

Other possibilities might include a plumber where the plumbing is an issue. A foundation waterproofing company where water is coming through the foundations. A roofer where water is comming from a bad roof or gutters ect. A mason for repairs to brick, stone, block or foundation walls. A landscaper where property grades are going into the house. Perhaps even a window company if water is coming through windows. An insulation or ventilation specialist where indoor air quality (humidity buildup) is an issue that cannot be resolved elsewhere. Depending upon their capabilities eithor a repair person or GC might handle all of these specialities themselves or farm out the work.

Contact your ins rep but realize that the damage may not be covered as this type of damage may be specifically excluded by the policy.

If you have a proper building supply house (yellow pages under lumber not home depot or loews) you might ask there for a recommendation or with your building department of the local town. There are also quite a few companies on the web as well as companies that specialize in finding other contractors (service magic for example.)
